Very interesting.  I was reading about Woodstock and the changes in fashion and how the rise, or should I say width of the bell bottom pant was a form of rebellion to political decisions.  This was a time when young people were very involved in our country, much like they are today.  The article compared our generation today with this politically/socially active youth of the 70’s. Pretty cool stuff.  I’m trying to track down the article—may have been in NYLON.
