There’s something about the city that makes the brisk autumn air feel like a nice summer breeze. Even on the coldest days, when I wait for a bus in the middle of winter, there is still some excitement in my veins to keep me warm. The preoccupation of busy people doing busy things on busy days doesn’t make me angry, it makes me happy, in a giddy, curious kind of way. “What is everybody doing today?” The fashion, conversations, bright lights are enough stimulation to keep me on my toes and ultimately satisfied. Much love to chi city.
more to come…

I have been spring cleaning for a good month now. I have used the term “going ruthless on my closet” more than ten times this week. Seeing that I am in a transitional phase, I am trying to eliminate any unnecessary items from my wardrobe (i.e. child-sized thrift store steals, never-worn impulse purchases, and of course, a pair of pink zumba MC Hammer velcro pants that I find hilarious and wear around the house for a good chuckle).
With that said, I have come up with a good plan for shoppers like myself, who go on an occasional retail therapy regimen… every day.
Make a list. Write down every wardrobe ‘staple’ that you honestly think you need to complete your closet.
Once you make your list, abide by it. This may sound like a sick joke, but I kid you not.
Think before you buy. If you’re standing in line with five things that are not list-worthy, take a deep breath and tell yourself you don’t NEED it. Remember, it will ultimately be part of your spring cleaning next year. Walk away from the register.
Surprisingly, my list has kind of worked, granite it has only been like two weeks. I went on a hunt for the things on my list and was so focused on finding my “staple” items that it made me focus on the few things I NEED, rather than being overstimulated by every pretty thing I saw and in turn, purchasing it.
I’m not saying this is fool-proof, but it might help—either that, or it won’t and you’ll still be hiding your receipts from your boyfriend and acting like you’ve had these new purchases in your closet for years!
CHEERS!

Very interesting. I was reading about Woodstock and the changes in fashion and how the rise, or should I say width of the bell bottom pant was a form of rebellion to political decisions. This was a time when young people were very involved in our country, much like they are today. The article compared our generation today with this politically/socially active youth of the 70’s. Pretty cool stuff. I’m trying to track down the article—may have been in NYLON.

goofy girls. This brings back memories of when they wore matching outfits in different colors as kids. Now they are straight-up orignals. I dig this cutsy throwback.
